Santa Monica & Back

We did a beach party in Santa Monica with Gavin Rossdale then me and Justin flew back to New York and went straight to sound check at Drom for the CMJ gig. I did a much more global music video mashup set then usual to go alongside the vibe of the night. Last night I played at Room Service in New York. We came 4th in the DJ Mag Top 20 VJs this year, thanks to everyone who voted. We just been working on a new concept with Dark Igloo who have also been designing our new website with Laura. Ian and Geoff just did an NUS tour around the UK and now we are all getting ready for Mexico this weekend and sunday night we are all flying to Boston to play at the Roxy with LL Cool J. Sick.

Showcase Live

Had a great time at Showcase live playing with Timbaland and Sebastian. The party was a celebration for Sebastian's birthday and was just sick. Showcase Live is an amazing venue with 50ft projection screen as well as multiple projectors and screens. The tech crew there were the fastest and most professional crew I have come across in the US so far. We did the show hang about with our good friend Kev Mitchell then went back to the hotel and talked them into letting us use the pool till the early hours.
Geoff flew up to St Andrews last weekend to play, said the show was sick. Then last night I played supportingLotus at the Mecury Lounge, party was great fun, audience was great. Tonight I am playing at Happy Corp for the lunch of Paul Pope's new DKNY clothing line. Been hanging out with Paul quite a bit recently, check out his sick Kid Robot action piece.

Adam Matters

So... did the Intermix Party for the opening of Fashion Week, tried out some new videos then retreated into production mode. Been recently working a lot with Dark Igloo who are working on new Eclectic Method designs and projects with us. One of those projects last week was filming the excellent beatboxer Adam Matta , check his video entertaining the wildlife:::

U-God from Wu-Tang dropped by my place and the video is now up on the new Crossfader site of his visit. Tomorrow night there is an Eclectic Method jam with Kotchy at the Lucky Cat in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I will be playing DVJs and CDJs through the SVM and Kotchy is playing an electronic drum kit, samplers and vocals. He'll be dropping a few tracks off his new album and i'll be doing a DVJ set as well.
Then Sunday I am off to Foxboro Massachusetts to do a gig with Timbaland, no jokes. Next week Wednesday Eclectic Method is supporting the band Lotus at the Mercury Lounge in NYC.

Inner Party System

Check out this excellent audio & video remix we did for Inner Party System:::

The remix is a sick (literally) media overloaded onslaught of a mix. The Inner Party System guys asked us to go ahead go nuts go ape-sh*t.... so we did. They liked it so much it's coming out as an audio only mix for djs next month as well. Also Mediatronica built a online video remix sampler out of the video samples and riffs we used to construct the mix and you can play/jam jam with that yourself here....

U-God

Yesterday U-God of the Wu Tang Clan came to my place with my mate Darek to film an interview about Eclectic Method for the brand new crossfader site. The crossfader site is being relaunched and luckily they took down my last videos in which I mastered the art of looking like a twazuk on camera. U-God was great and well into it, my favourite quote of the day being, "This blew my motherfucking head off!! I've never seen nothing like this... this is some NEW SHIT!!! Kids is gonna love this..." He asked us to do some remixes, possible work on tracks together, exchanged details and departed. I then went to spend time with Sascha (aka Sport Casual) who is my favorite dj at the moment, check out this killer latin mix from him. This saturday me and Abe are doing live AV jamming at the Lucky Cat and Sascha is going to be playing with us as well.

EM on Solid Steel

Eclectic Method DJ mix on SOLID STEEL this week. A sneeky download of it available here. It's our second time on the show, I have been a fan of Solid Steel since I was a kid so it's always something like giddy excitement for me when the Ninja's ask us to make a mix. The mix has a definite more global/leftfield flavor then our usual dancefloor kicking mixes, should be streaming on their site all this week. Solid Steel has been around for ever, it started out as Coldcut's regular show on KISS FM then expanded to include members of DJ Food, Darren (DK) and others. They also started syndicating the show to stations around the world about a decade ago. Anyone who has heard Coldcut's Journeys by DJs (JDJ) will know the killer eclectic mixing styles that Solid Steel contains. Liam Howlett (The Prodigy) stated it as his number one influence for doing his astonishingly good Dirtchamber Sessions Vol 1 mix.

Little Big Beef

We've recently been working on levels, remixes and some development ideas for the new PS3 game Little Big Planet. The game is sick fun and has the most important ingredient for a game that is going to be huge, girls love it! We also recently spent time with Quincy Jones III of QD3 in LA who is working with our friends Tim & Raphi on some video orientated projects. We took QD3's Beef series, a bunch of documentaries about hip hop beefs. Check out the first Eclectic Method BEEF mix centered around KRS ONE and the South Bronx. The south south Bronx!
I am locked away in Brooklyn with a pile of drives, Ian is doing much of the same in LA and Geoff in London. I am doing another video jam band thing with Abe at the end of the month at the Lucky Cat in Brooklyn and then Fashion Week gig here in NYC and Geoff and Ian will be playing 2 or 3 times at BESTIVAL. So much remix work in production at the moment , brand new zeitghost, motown mixes, tv show , convention specials.

Californication

Last weekend me and JB went to San Francisco where we played the excellent Bootie party at the DNA Lounge. We stayed with our mate Dan of TicketFly and even got a day to chill and drive over the golden gate bridge and go check the beautiful surroundings. Then we came to LA and Ian flew out to join us after his weekend of gigs in the UK at Global Gathering and Secret Garden Party Festivals with Geoff. Apparently Secret Garden was excellent fun and they played a tent where everyone wore headphones to the set. Monday we went to the Key Club to see Metal School, oh my god, it was ace.... Like the Cuban Brothers of Rock... Seriously funny i actually haven't laughed out loud that hard since seeing the Cuban's at our MITU night in NYC. Girls obligingly strip as a regular part of the show, every Monday night at the Key Club. Tuesday we were at the Edison which was a sweet venue, an old LA power station. Last night we played right before Lil John & T Pain at the Oakley party at the Key Club on Sunset, which was sick. Now we are chilling at our friend Nick's house in the hills. Been making an approximate video diary of our time in Cali, will pop it up sometime.

Tippy Toes

One month no writings... I moved apartment and been otherwise sorting out my belongings. Firstly had a killer Vimeo party in Brooklyn.

Ian & Geoff played to around 6,000 folks at the new Oxegen Festival in Ireland, ridiculous amounts of clips appeared on youtube:::

Played with Nikka Costa a few days later at the Bowery Ballroom here in NYC, we did a remix for her a few years ago so we made a video for it for her show. Then i had a jam with Reggie Watts & Abe Seiferth at the Lucky Cat, what is now our local since we moved. Me and Abe are occupying the same building and working on a few tunes together for fun but also a house tune with Reggie. Abe and Reggie also do the Tippy Toes disco band with the dudes from Hercules & Love Affair. They have a few shows coming up and i will be doing the video jam with Reggie & Abe again in August. It's a fun set up, Abe on loop pedals , guitar and drummachines... Reggie doe's his comedy loop pedal thing and also brings a Virus keyboard that he knocks out riffs on and i play video samples off two DVJs.

Also recently I have become a massive fan of Drop The Lime who makes bassline heavy dance music well worth checking in detail. My friend Mark Miller also recently introduced me to the brilliant nervous comedic outings of Josh McCutchen which i also advise checking out.

Right now we just finished a wicked video remix for Inner Party System which we promised their label we wouldn't show till it's about to be released, I hate sitting on things in the internet age. We're also deep into making video mixes for Motown which is probably a while away from being out there but we are dropping odd bits in our live shows. It was super positive and super progressive that their reaction to seeing us jam with Motown was to ask us to do it officially for them.

I am flying tomorrow with Justin to San Francisco for the Bootie Party there. The parties in San Fran are always off the chain so super looking forward to it. Ian & Geoff are doing another festival weekender tomorrow their at Global Gathering then the next day their at the Secret Garden Party with our boy Eddy Temple-Morris. Then Ian is flying out to LA to do no less then 4 parties with me in 6 days the most killer off the chain one looks like Bootie LA. All our LA peeps come out for party!!!

Bowery Nights

So things are joyously mad and hectic. Last night I played support and inbetween audio-video mixing at the Bowery Ballroom. Gotta say i loved the bands that night, Francis & The Lights were absolutely solid , Francis seemed a little stressed in soundcheck but the live show is amazing he actually puts in effort and has a very cool sound , the band is tight as f**k.... Also Heloise & The Savoir fare were wicked too. Today i just been running around and finally moved some stuff into my new place, me and a few friends have managed to find a building all to ourselves in Brooklyn and i have been trying to get my stuff there between gigs and running around. Tonight i am going to be playing at the Vimeo party in Brooklyn a few blocks from my new home. Sunday I am at the Remix Hotel for Pioneer. Monday I am back at the Bowery Ballroom supporting Nikka Costa who i have been a fan of for ages, Eclectic Method did a remix for her a few years back for the track "Matter Of Time" so i massively looking forward to the show. Then Tuesday playing a party for Zinc Magazine in Manhattan then wednesday i am going to sleep for a day or two.... We've also been hard at work on a video remix for Inner Party System who are blowing up all kinds of flavors of cool at the moment.

PLAYB0Y

So all three of us and JB just went to LA to play at the Playboy Mansion. Place had a lovely set up of a multitude of screens for Spike TV awards after party. The mansion has an amazing zoo and the pool is sick. We did a 3 hour set then basically just packed up, went home and passed out.

Then last Sunday we played again in LA supporting the Cool Kids at the Key Club. The Cool Kids were excellent. Massive thanks to Blake and Nick for helping us around in LA. We also got to hang with our friend Bernd late Sunday night. This weekend Ian and Geoff are playing at Fatboy's Rockness Festival in Inverness and we are all currently working on the next installment of the ZeitGhost mixes.

Dnchrd

Massive thanks to the LVHRD guys for putting on an excellent show at The Art Directors Club in which 6 different colored teams went at it in Dance Battle whilst i dropped Method video Mixery. LVHRD's Dave was the most hilarious host and kept the room packed throughout the event, even to the point where he had to beg the dancefloor to go home at club closing.

TONIGHT I am giving an interview on The Remix on XFM in the UK, Eclectic Method just did a guest DJ mix for tonights show and Eddy Temple Morris is gonna be calling up in a short while. Things have been hella hectic and hella strange in the last week just catching up with myself. All 3 of us are flying into LA next week to play at the Playboy Mansion and a few other LA gigs. Some super cool events and remixes coming from us in next few weeks i'll write about them when i have had a chance to catch up with myself.

Night out with Pope & Boxer

I don't drink much but Greg Deocampo is in town, he is currently based mostly out of Florida, so we went out on the town last night and murdered the mojitos. We went down to an excellent brazilian bar with our mate Jeff Newelt aka JahFurry to meet the artist Paul Pope. We are possibly going to be working with Paul on creating Smearadonna amongst other fun comic book projects. Paul has just done a clothing line for DKNY that is out now and we are researching various comic book/video remix cross over projects with Jeff. After this we went to meet ex-Res boys Jeremy Boxer and Khris Kline at the excellent RedBull venue in Watts Street, dangerously free booze ensued and then we walked home in the early AM. I love living in Manhattan, it might be ridiculously overpriced and you end up living in a cupboard but nothing beats walking home in a giant urban village. Also been talking to James Amato at Potty Mouth about possibly doing some stuff together, the Potty Mouth releases are wicked we have been caning Santiago & Bushido's "HeadTrick". We are all focused on cutting up Bob Marley video's these day..... Oh and big thanks to Eddy Temple-Morris who dropped the Lucky Highstepper Breeders "Cannonball" remix the other day.

WarrenBlogMarley&Stuff

Warren Ellis featured the latest ZeitGhost mix on his blog today. We are currently working on a Bob Marley video mashup mix for Imeem and just generally collecting the latest beats and shiz. Just found out today we are gonna be playing at the Playboy Mansion. Also last week Dave & Mark from LVHRD dropped by my studio at Mediatronica to check out the video mixery and the posted this video from their visit.

Las Angeles Los Vegas

So just got back last night from a week in LA, stayed with Ian and Amine in LA where we played the rooftop of the Standard downtown. Was only my second time in LA and got a chance to see so many friends we hadn't seen for time including our old friend Thomas Golubic. I didn't love LA the first time i went but this time i had a great time and got to see a lot in a week. We are playing a few times this year in LA so looking forward to return trips. Thanks to everyone who came to Standard sorry about the door situation it was crazy and even some of our friends couldn't get in. From LA we went to Las Vegas to play at the NAB Conference in Las Vegas. We played at the newly refurbished Bank nightclub in the Bellagio, the soundsystem was amazing and we had 8 plasma screens which looked amazing. Then went back to check out the Venetian and it's faux daylight canal before passing out and heading back home.

Also check out my boy,Minister of Hype, Jeff Newelt's crew in NY TIMES.

Winter Music Conference, LA & Las Vegas

Wow someone should have warned me about Miami, i didn't even take any drugs or wax my chest. It was super fun so fun i lost my camera with all the pics and interviews with our friends like Justin Kent & DJ 2nd Nature. So we had a great time spent a lot of time with Justin & Allie, got to see our good friend Lars Schlichting whenever we could drag him away from being so busy. One of the highlights for me was being on same panel as Keith Shocklee of the Bomb Squad (what the heck was i doing on that panel?). Also Sony party which we played that was so exclusive they stopped anyone from coming in, no really anyone. We played with our mate Carmen Rizzo and then went on to spend the night drinking with Dan Mancini who just booked us to play on the rooftop of the Standard Hotel in LA on 12th April. Then we gonna be at the Bellagio in Las Vegas on the 15th.

So we are going to Miami for the Winter Music Conference. Looking forward being somewhere warm and also to fit in listening to 100s of DJs in the 5 days i'll be there. Eclectic Method is playing Thursday Night for Sony Creative @ The Remix Hotel. We'll also be doing demo /talk things. We'll be at the Miami Beach Resort & Spa on Wed and Thur, a few other parties, will endeavour to upload photos and blog some more.

DJ Charts/Lists/Mixes

Over the years Eclectic Method has been asked to contribute to various online and magazine charts. We've always found it hard to list in a top ten what we're into at any one moment and also sometimes one of our favourite things is an obscure video loop. This weekend we are all preparing for our sets at the Winter Music Conference in Miami and I am going over my favourite tunes from last couple of months. Some of the tracks I am really addicted to at the moment are:

Diplo - Must be a devil
Jacknife Lee - Money (Switch Remix)
Dub Pistols - Open (Trevor Lovey Mix)
Jokers of the Scene - Y'all Know The Name
Stimming - Funkworm
Adam Freeland - Hate
Santiago & Bushido - Head Trick
JF, Smokecream - Retox
SebastiAn & Mr Oizo - Skatesteak
Deadmau5 vs Jelo - The Reward is Cheese

Some are a year or two old some just came out but these seem to be the tracks i am always whipping out in a dance club. I used a couple of tracks in the below Lucky Highstepper step 1 mix but we're gonna put some new mixes together which we'll put up soon.

Netvibes

Have been a massive fan of Netvibes for some time now. It's a site that allows you to build your own dashboard out of various widgets and notes like a multi-media chalk board for your digi kitchen. They've just updated their site and now you can make public parts of your netvibes account, mine's here.
I've also become a massive fan of the film cloverfield, saw it in a cinema the first time which probably contributed, the film can seem hard to take on smaller screens. It's shocking in the cinema. One of the things i loved about what JJ Abrams does is creating all these websites and media content that interweaves into the story. Like a site for a fake oil company whose deep sea oil drilling gets disrupted by the monster 2 months before the movie launched, or the fake drinks brand slusho. Much like Quentin Tarantino's fake product creation but what i love about JJ Abrams' stuff is the mutlimedia/multiplatform continuation of the story telling that happens on the web. Another extended media experience i really liked from recent years was the Animatrix stories that went around the Matrix movie's release, telling extended stories from the Matrix universe. So recently i have been talking with my friend and programmer/cgi creator Gwynne Reddick about making a story based on a very openly vast plot line which many people could tell on many platforms. Like the Cloverfield back stories on the web but there is no movie. The story would be a network of short video clips, blogs, written word, comic book scripts that all combine together to form a story the viewer can pick and choose which scenes to watch.

Step 1 DJ Mix

MP3
Heres the lucky highstepper step 1 dj mix featuring some of my favourite bumpin tracks of the moment & some classics too. Two of producers i've been listening to a lot of these days are Deadmau5 and Jokers of the scene.

LH EP out today

Lucky Highstepper first release "What Are Girls Like" EP is out today. Check out the myspace page as well with newly added remix of Apes & Androids "Radio" and KRS One classic classic "Sound Of The PoPo". We just working on video mixes as usual and getting ready for WMC in Miami, we will be playing a bunch of places in the week, firstly Thur 27th @ The Remix Hotel.

I been spending my free time checking over a range of other blogs and sites covering a range of topics from Trashy Media to Silicon Valley chatter::: Perez Hilton, Dlisted, Gawker, Kanye's Blog, The Daily Swarm, Valleywag, BrooklynVegan. Was super pysched when a recent remix got featured on Perez Hilton site.

Trash Media Mixing & Mobile Jamming

Been getting into a bit of the immediate Celebrity Trash Video Remix stuff along with some friends like Josh Pearson & Greg Deocampo. I've always been interested in the immediate media remix idea , like EBN or Coldcuts news remixes but in this case within 24hours of the event happening and with trashy pop icons. So we've launched Smearadonna, to host this immediate pop culture implosion, watch as the debauched story unfolds, repeatedly. I've never brought myself to divulge the location of the video remixes of utter and complete wrongness but their out there on the digi web.

Another concept that we've been collectively working on is the video remixing game. In it's simpliest form a video sampler to play with on a games device or the internet. With Mediatronica we worked on the WAR jet li kung fu beats jamming widget and have since been developing that idea further.

Guitar Hero & Rock Band have grown huge, even becoming a new revenue source for labels revitalizing their old wares. Turntable/HipHop/DJ Style games have been around for a bit, but what i want is something that is part game part media remix tool. Most of the time cutting , pasting, remixing, adding effects fells like far more a game then other musical endeavours. Eclectic Method's live set is configured much like a jamming game where we all combine fragments of audio and video fast and thick to create a live improvised set, sometimes chaotic sometimes magnificent. Out of this came the idea for the simpliest mobile jamming social network style game, Mojamm or Mobile Jamming. The idea being that users of different mobile devices would collect audio-video clips that will play in sync with their friends devices when they meet, as in below video.

On top of the video stuff been making video and audio remixes for the excellent J Live who we met touring the Middle East last year and also the NYC based band Apes & Androids who i played with at Christmas. Also check out this Lucky Highstepper salute to KRS One. We got a new mix of U2's vertigo up on iMeem today. Also check out this interview on CNET featuring the method, DJ Lars and Roonie G.

What Are Girls Like?

Man i got a bunch of blogs and a ton of different names. Here is where i am gonna be hosting my random mis-spelt blurts from now on. The old blog is still up for now.

Release Date: 15th March 2008

We had our second MITU night in Brooklyn. Reggie Watts was amazingly funny and rocked the house, i did a 2 hour video mashup set and now we have paused on the MITU night until later in the year. The next week i did a more chilled set at the excellent Museum of The Moving Image in Queens NYC. We played along side Bubblyfish who did an excellent 8-bit set of retro fitted Game Boys and visual from an NES.

Check out the recent ZeitGhost and Wall Street video remixes. The Method is currently cutting up videos for the Rick Rubin mixtape project from Game Rebellion. We also currently making video stuff for the excellent Delicious Vinyl label, they are releasing a bunch of remixes of their classic tracks this year from folk like Diplo. We have some exclusive video mixes also in the works for exclusives on Imeem in including first look at Eclectic's Bob Marley video remix. This month we are all heading out to WMC in Miami for gigs, talks and just generally having fun.
