DJ Charts/Lists/Mixes

Over the years Eclectic Method has been asked to contribute to various online and magazine charts. We've always found it hard to list in a top ten what we're into at any one moment and also sometimes one of our favourite things is an obscure video loop. This weekend we are all preparing for our sets at the Winter Music Conference in Miami and I am going over my favourite tunes from last couple of months. Some of the tracks I am really addicted to at the moment are:

Diplo - Must be a devil
Jacknife Lee - Money (Switch Remix)
Dub Pistols - Open (Trevor Lovey Mix)
Jokers of the Scene - Y'all Know The Name
Stimming - Funkworm
Adam Freeland - Hate
Santiago & Bushido - Head Trick
JF, Smokecream - Retox
SebastiAn & Mr Oizo - Skatesteak
Deadmau5 vs Jelo - The Reward is Cheese

Some are a year or two old some just came out but these seem to be the tracks i am always whipping out in a dance club. I used a couple of tracks in the below Lucky Highstepper step 1 mix but we're gonna put some new mixes together which we'll put up soon.

Netvibes

Have been a massive fan of Netvibes for some time now. It's a site that allows you to build your own dashboard out of various widgets and notes like a multi-media chalk board for your digi kitchen. They've just updated their site and now you can make public parts of your netvibes account, mine's here.
I've also become a massive fan of the film cloverfield, saw it in a cinema the first time which probably contributed, the film can seem hard to take on smaller screens. It's shocking in the cinema. One of the things i loved about what JJ Abrams does is creating all these websites and media content that interweaves into the story. Like a site for a fake oil company whose deep sea oil drilling gets disrupted by the monster 2 months before the movie launched, or the fake drinks brand slusho. Much like Quentin Tarantino's fake product creation but what i love about JJ Abrams' stuff is the mutlimedia/multiplatform continuation of the story telling that happens on the web. Another extended media experience i really liked from recent years was the Animatrix stories that went around the Matrix movie's release, telling extended stories from the Matrix universe. So recently i have been talking with my friend and programmer/cgi creator Gwynne Reddick about making a story based on a very openly vast plot line which many people could tell on many platforms. Like the Cloverfield back stories on the web but there is no movie. The story would be a network of short video clips, blogs, written word, comic book scripts that all combine together to form a story the viewer can pick and choose which scenes to watch.

Trash Media Mixing & Mobile Jamming

Been getting into a bit of the immediate Celebrity Trash Video Remix stuff along with some friends like Josh Pearson & Greg Deocampo. I've always been interested in the immediate media remix idea , like EBN or Coldcuts news remixes but in this case within 24hours of the event happening and with trashy pop icons. So we've launched Smearadonna, to host this immediate pop culture implosion, watch as the debauched story unfolds, repeatedly. I've never brought myself to divulge the location of the video remixes of utter and complete wrongness but their out there on the digi web.

Another concept that we've been collectively working on is the video remixing game. In it's simpliest form a video sampler to play with on a games device or the internet. With Mediatronica we worked on the WAR jet li kung fu beats jamming widget and have since been developing that idea further.

Guitar Hero & Rock Band have grown huge, even becoming a new revenue source for labels revitalizing their old wares. Turntable/HipHop/DJ Style games have been around for a bit, but what i want is something that is part game part media remix tool. Most of the time cutting , pasting, remixing, adding effects fells like far more a game then other musical endeavours. Eclectic Method's live set is configured much like a jamming game where we all combine fragments of audio and video fast and thick to create a live improvised set, sometimes chaotic sometimes magnificent. Out of this came the idea for the simpliest mobile jamming social network style game, Mojamm or Mobile Jamming. The idea being that users of different mobile devices would collect audio-video clips that will play in sync with their friends devices when they meet, as in below video.

On top of the video stuff been making video and audio remixes for the excellent J Live who we met touring the Middle East last year and also the NYC based band Apes & Androids who i played with at Christmas. Also check out this Lucky Highstepper salute to KRS One. We got a new mix of U2's vertigo up on iMeem today. Also check out this interview on CNET featuring the method, DJ Lars and Roonie G.

What Are Girls Like?

Man i got a bunch of blogs and a ton of different names. Here is where i am gonna be hosting my random mis-spelt blurts from now on. The old blog is still up for now.

Release Date: 15th March 2008

We had our second MITU night in Brooklyn. Reggie Watts was amazingly funny and rocked the house, i did a 2 hour video mashup set and now we have paused on the MITU night until later in the year. The next week i did a more chilled set at the excellent Museum of The Moving Image in Queens NYC. We played along side Bubblyfish who did an excellent 8-bit set of retro fitted Game Boys and visual from an NES.

Check out the recent ZeitGhost and Wall Street video remixes. The Method is currently cutting up videos for the Rick Rubin mixtape project from Game Rebellion. We also currently making video stuff for the excellent Delicious Vinyl label, they are releasing a bunch of remixes of their classic tracks this year from folk like Diplo. We have some exclusive video mixes also in the works for exclusives on Imeem in including first look at Eclectic's Bob Marley video remix. This month we are all heading out to WMC in Miami for gigs, talks and just generally having fun.
